Before skaters can learn to jump or spin on the ice, they need to master the basics. Beginners start by learning how to fall and get back up and how to find their balance on the ice; skills include marches, forward swizzles, backward wiggles, two-foot glides, and beginning snowplow stops. This program will focus on developing agility, balance, and coordination as the foundation for more advanced figure skating skills; skaters will be encouraged to work at their own pace in a positive and supportive environment. Helmets or thick hats and mittens/gloves are recommended. Instructors may determine that your child should be in another skill level and may switch kids as necessary so they benefit the most from the program.

Session 2- Sundays, January 8- February 19 2:05pm-2:35pm

Skaters who have mastered the basics can progress to more advanced and challenging skating skills. Skaters in this group learn how to turn “swizzles” into correct forward stroking; skills include one-foot glides, two-foot turns, slaloms, forward edges on the circle, and beginning forward crossovers. Helmets or thick hats and mittens/gloves are recommended. Instructors may determine that your child should be in another skill level and may switch kids as necessary so they benefit the most from the program.
